Rocha arrives at his statement as a witness in the Super Cup case “very calm and to collaborate with justice”

“Very calm and to collaborate with justice.” This is how the former interim president and candidate for the presidency of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Pedro Rocha, arrived shortly before ten thirty in the morning at the Court of First Instance and Instruction number 4 in Majadahonda (Madrid)., cited as a witness in the Super Cup case. His testimony is considered of interest by Judge Delia Rodrigo, who is investigating the alleged diversion of funds associated with contracts during the management of the entity by Luis Rubiales, with whom he was vice president and whom he succeeded provisionally.

You will have to answer questions related to the Operation Brody developed on March 20, which involved searches at the federation headquarters and a dozen homes and which focuses on allegedly suspicious awards, among which are those made to the company Gruconsa for the rehabilitation of the La Cartuja stadium in Seville.

Rocha is expected to be proclaimed president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) next Monday, April 15. He will do so after gathering 107 of the 138 possible endorsements and sweeping away the rest of the candidates, among them the journalist Carlos Herrera, who, being the second candidate with the most support, did not manage to reach the 21 necessary to make the cut.

This Friday, coinciding with his statement as a witness in the case that investigates alleged corruption in Rubiales’ RFEF, the federal entity will proclaim him as president and will allow 48 hours of the weekend for potential challenges to the electoral process before the Court of Arbitration for Sports (TAD). On Monday, Rocha would be proclaimed president if this body does not say otherwise.

Rubiales in Spain

The court has given a boost to the case after the Civil Guard arrested and released Rubiales on April 3 after his arrival in Spain from the Dominican Republic, where the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the armed institute registered the former soccer player’s accommodation in Punta Cana by order of the instructor.

The judge is investigating alleged crimes of business corruption, unfair administration and money laundering committed between 2018 and 2023, when Rubiales was in charge of the RFEF. Last March, the instructor released the man who was an external legal advisor to the Federation, Tomás González Cueto, and Ángel González Segura, related to the works at the La Cartuja stadium in Seville that are under suspicion. They were the only ones of the seven people detained in the first searches who were brought before the court and took advantage of their right not to testify, so Rocha’s testimony will be the first that the judge hears on this matter.
