Robert Pirès remains assistant to Bernard Diomède with the French U19 team until the Euro

Robert Pirès, consultant for Canal + since 2019, has started a new cycle in his professional life in recent months. As part of a career change, the 1998 world champion (50 years old) began training for the BEF (Football Coaching Certificate) at the Paris League. In this context, the former midfielder joined the staff of the French U19 team led by Bernard Diomède in October.

Pirès, who participated as an assistant in the qualifying round then in the Elite round last March, should be integrated more permanently into this staff. “The idea is that Robert continues the experience and is therefore present at the Euro U19 (from July 15 to 28 in Northern Ireland), explains Lionel Rouxel, the manager of the national selections. He brings us all his skills, his interpersonal skills and his experience. » Beyond Thierry Henry with the Espoirs, several former internationals – including Gaël Clichy – have been integrated into the staff of the national selections in recent years.
