The badminton club at Daeryong Middle School in Chuncheon has been revived.

Daeryong Middle School held the ‘Daeryong Middle School Badminton Club Inaugural Ceremony’ in the multipurpose room on campus on the 17th. The group was re-established nine years after disbanding in 2015 due to problems with the supply and demand of players. On this day, Provincial Superintendent of Education Shin Kyeong-ho, Chuncheon City Sports Council President Lee Kang-gyun, Chuncheon City Education Director Heo Nam-ho, and Provincial Badminton Association President Ahn Chang-gyu attended to congratulate the founding. The Provincial Office of Education, Chuncheon City Sports Council, and Provincial Badminton Association provided founding support funds, and Korea Used Badminton Federation, Korea Badminton Association, Chuncheon City Badminton Association, Daeryong Badminton Club, and Suar Badminton Club provided supplies.

Daeryong Middle School’s badminton club is comprised of male players, and its four founding members are Kim Gyeong-min, Kim Chan-woo, Lee Jong-yoon, and Lim Seung-hyuk (more than a year). Daeryong Middle School Athletic Director Kim Seong-gu serves as the coach, and Coach Lee Won-bok also coaches the players. With the establishment of Daeryong Middle School’s badminton club, it has become possible to prevent players from Dongnae Elementary School’s male badminton team from leaking out to other regions.

In his inaugural address, Daeryong Middle School principal Jeong Yong-ho said, “Daeryong Middle School’s badminton department has set the goal of nurturing the professional abilities of players through step-by-step and systematic training,” and added, “We will do our best to help players grow into future talents with both skill and personality.” “I will do my best,” he pledged.

Superintendent Shin Gyeong-ho said in his commemorative speech, “When I visited Dongnae Elementary School two years ago, parents wanted to establish a badminton club at Daeryong Middle School. “So I asked the former principal, and Principal Jeong Yong-ho tied the knot,” he said, adding, “I will also found a high school badminton team by the time the founding members graduate.”

In his congratulatory speech, Chairman Lee Kang-gyun said, “Once the high school men’s badminton team is established, Chuncheon City will complete the systemization of men’s and women’s badminton from elementary schools to universities.” He added, “The city sports council will continue to provide interest and support so that Chuncheon’s outstanding talents can grow into great players in our hometown.” “I will not spare any effort,” he said.
