After the night game between the Reds and Heideköpfe on Friday in Stuttgart, the second game followed on Saturday at the HellensteinEnergie Ballpark in Heidenheim. The Heideköpfe won game 1 10:4.

Stuttgart had already shown on Friday that they can keep up with the reigning German champions. And so they took a 2-0 lead in the first inning against the home team and their starter Jared Mortensen. After two singles from Austin Bull and Danilo Weber, Moritz Köhler and Jonas van Bergen each scored the first two points with an RBI single.

The game briefly became déjà vu in the second inning for the Reds, who had already lost their victory in the final phase the day before due to pitching problems. Walk – Hit Bunt Single – Hit by Pitch – Walk – Walk – Hit Sacrifice Bunt. The result: three runs and thus the lead for Heidenheim.

But this time the Reds didn’t lose their motivation and fought back the lead. They first tied the scoreboard again in the 5th inning with an RBI single from Thomas Barrie before adding more in the 7th inning. Five singles in a row – from Fabian Beck, Austin Bull, Moritz van Bergen, Thomas Barrie and Danilo Weber – brought the Reds three more runs. They didn’t let this lead be taken away by a single home run from Drew Janssen in the 7th inning.

Yaferson Lopez Gomez pitched a complete game for the Reds (3 hits, 4 earned runs, including 1 home run, 9 walks, 14 strikeouts) and received his first win of the season. Jared Mortensen took the loss.
