This weekend, the sporting activity in the Dreifelderhalle on Wiesenweg is all about a premiere. For the first time, the judo department of FSV Viktoria Brandenburg is organizing a cup tournament. The young judokas in the U7 to U15 age groups from Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony-Anhalt, Berlin and of course Brandenburg are fighting for medals and trophies.

A total of 42 clubs from the six federal states mentioned have registered almost 680 young judokas for the tournament. The most strongly represented age group is the U11 with 180 starters. On Saturday the youngest children, U7 to U11, went to the three mats. That was 332 athletes. On Sunday, 336 judokas will compete in the U13 to U15 age groups to determine their winners.

“We are thrilled by the great response to our premiere cup tournament,” says club chairman Lothar Müller. He directed a special thank you to the sports friends of the Budokan-Brandenburg eV judo club. “Without their active support and their experience, we would not have been able to do this. On behalf of everyone, I can only thank the Budokan supporters very much,” said Müller.

Anyone who would like to see the achievements of the young judoka or be inspired by the competitive atmosphere can do so this Sunday from 10 a.m. According to estimates, the competitions should last until the early afternoon. Admission is free, but anyone who eats something also helps the club, because everything that is raised from sales here, after deducting the costs, goes to the youth work in the club.
