On Thursday, the multi-functional stadium of the municipality of Mārupe county in Piņkis was officially opened, and the residents and students of the county have acquired another modern sports infrastructure facility for the implementation and promotion of an active lifestyle. The total cost of the project was 1,783,969.90 euros (without VAT), according to the municipality’s information.
The opening event was attended by the municipalities of Mārupe region, the designer SIA “BM-projekts”, the contractor SIA “SC Grupa”, the construction supervisor SIA “Marčuks” and representatives of the residents’ advisory councils, as well as the special guests of honor – the captain of the Latvian men’s basketball team Dairis Bertāns, 2023. the best goal scorer of the 2nd Latvian football league, Mārupe Sports Center football team captain Kristiāns Korsaks and nine-time Latvian champion athlete Jeļena Ābele.
“Marupe district has acquired another modern sports infrastructure object, where young talents will be able to strengthen their sportsmanship, actively spend their everyday lives, as well as participate in various competitions, achieving new records. With persistence and practice, success is guaranteed. This is confirmed by the high achievements of our athletes in various Latvian and international competitions. I wish that the activity in this stadium does not stop even on weekends and evenings! Let it become a place to be together, maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle!” Andrejs Ence, chairman of the Mārupe County Municipal Council, said at the event.
Students of Babīte High School, Babīte Music School and Mārupe County Sports School entertained the audience with their performances. Symbolically, the first goal was scored by the football player Kristiāns Korsaks, who was recognized as the most popular sportsman of Mārupe region in 2023, with the ball given by the Latvian Football Federation in a skillful match with the mayor of Mārupe Andrejas Enci.
Immediately after the official opening ceremony of the stadium, the participants of the World Youth Winter Olympic Games “Gangwon 2024” were welcomed – Latvian U-16 3×3 hockey team players Martins Bārtulis, Daniels Reidzāns and Ričards Rutkis, team manager Renārs Freibergs, monobob skiers Amēlija Kotāne and Kate Liene Prudāne, coach Kristaps Kotāns, as well as speed skater Gustavs Vācietis and cross-country skier Jēkabs Skolnieks.
The stadium will be available for public visits at the beginning of May, in April – only for students of Babīte secondary school and Mārupe district sports school, according to the municipality.
