Atlético Nacional arrived with the obligation to win three more points to continue dreaming of qualifying for the BetPlay 2024-I League, but those led by Pablo Repetto ended up being surprised by Pereira, who ended up winning by the slightest difference and, incidentally, eliminated to purslane.
The locals started with a good rhythm of play, motivated to get the goal that would allow them to win the game, but the definition began to fail and Pereira began to close spaces to not let Repetto’s team play comfortably.
With so many shots that were presented constantly, but without much effectiveness on the part of both, the game progressed and ended with a zero in the first half, but the surprise came in those crucial minutes.
In the 45th minute, a quick play by Pereira occurred and they managed to reach the Nacional area, with Andrés Ibargüen being the one who made an important pass and there the star Carlos Darwin Quintero ended up finishing with power and above Harlen Castillo to make it 1-0 for the matecañas.
In the second half it seemed that Nacional was going to come out determined to come back, but the game did not end up going as imagined, since the purslanes suffered an expulsion of Juan Felipe Aguirre and that conditioned them.
From then on, Nacional never found a collective game and Pereira played at its own pace, holding on to the result that the classification was giving it.
The game went on, the scoring opportunities in the goals were obscured, Pereira managed the result and managed to manage that minimal difference in a good way.
In the end, Pereira even ended up with possession in his favor, although fouls were present, but all that time gained was important for the Matecaña.
This 1-0 result for Pereira in the Atanasio sealed the Matecaña’s classification to home runs by achieving 31 points, while Nacional was left with 20 points and with six points to go, it is not able to reach the ideal score (29), as it would 26.
