Paris 2024 Olympic Games: attribution, date, security… everything you need to know about the invitations for the opening ceremony

A “popular ceremony”. The State and stakeholders wish to preserve this issue, even if we now know that the 220,000 free places on the high platforms will not be allocated on the “1st come – 1st served” basis, but by invitation. Co-organizers, the State, the city of Paris and Paris 2024 will each have more than 35,000 tickets to manage, the communities of Seine-Saint-Denis, 28,000. Other communities and institutions (notably the Ile-de-France region , the Île-de-France prefecture, the host cities, the Greater Paris Metropolis or even certain departments) will share the rest.

In total, 170 institutional partners are concerned by this allocation, those concerned, for example, by the passage of road races or those impacted by the bathing plan for the Seine and the Marne having been added to the system.

If tensions had appeared during the first discussions, it is now clear that 3 types of public will be targeted as a priority: the people who make the Games (agents, employees, elected officials, community volunteers and structures involved in the organization, the preparation, mobilization around the Games); those impacted by the Games (economic players, residents of the Olympic facilities); and young people.

“The State will invite public officials, who are mobilized for the Games, young beneficiaries of public policies and people impacted, such as students who have to leave their rooms to public officials,” we are told by people close to the Minister of Sports, Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“We are going to invite people who probably would not have had access to this ceremony”

Institutional partners are responsible for putting together their guest lists. Reservations will open on May 27 and will last, a priori, until June 9. The beneficiary of an access ticket to the ceremony will receive an email with a personal code, usable only once, and which will be activated automatically on May 27. The beneficiary can then enter their unique code on the reservation site, provide their information and that of their companions (up to 3).

It is then Paris 2024 which, in mid-July, will send an email to the guests to confirm the availability of access tickets, which will be available on the official “Paris 2024 Tickets” application (the same as for tickets for the competitions). For security reasons, rules will be extremely strict during the ceremony. Thus, it will not be possible to transfer your invitations. The beneficiary and their 3 companions must go to access control at the same time, with all tickets appearing on a single mobile phone. Everyone must also have proof of identity. Finally, the tickets will be attached to a specific area and it will not be possible to stroll along the 6 km of the Seine. “This formula of invitations by trusted third parties is the one which is best able to respond to a double challenge: that of organizing the most secure show while preserving a popular ceremony, we believe in the cabinet of ‘Amélie Oudéa-Castéra. We are going to invite people who would probably not have had access to this ceremony, so we are going further in our initial ambition. »
