Opava will not defend the basketball title. In the dramatic sixth quarterfinal, she lost to Ostrava by a point – ČT sport – Czech Television

“If we were able to win like this with Opava, why not with Nymburk?” Ostrava coach Adam Choleva told Czech Television.

After the series with Opava, he praised the fans of both teams. “The backdrop was unbelievable,” said the coach, whose team only went to the playoffs from ninth place after the extension phase.

Opavané paid the price for a bad start to the match, in the beginning of which they were losing 0:11. “We knew that Ostrava would bet everything on one card. They rushed into the match. Unfortunately, we seemed to get scared,” said the guest coach Petr Czudek.

“We absolutely didn’t manage the match. I can’t deny the boys’ combativeness. We toiled, players dropped out. I’m proud of my team,” he said. “Ostrava prepared excellently. They were excellent, they deservedly advanced.”

The home team led by as many as 16 points, but Opava made a great chase mainly thanks to captain Jakub Šiřina, who started the match on the bench after health problems.

In the end, he played over 29 minutes and scored 29 points, including five 3-pointers. With one of them just before the horn, he reduced the difference to the final one point.

“It’s a huge experience for us because we had the first season after the title. I expected that we would have a crisis in the regular season or the expansion. We did that. We didn’t make the first round of the playoffs. It’s very instructive for us, I I take it as a gift,” said Czudek.

“Of course, I’m sad because we have great fans who deserved another fight in the playoffs. We have to prepare for the new season,” added the Opava coach.
