Ons Jabeur rarely found himself in trouble against Jelena Ostapenko.
Ons Jabeur won the duel between the top 10 players in two sets. Especially in the first set, Jelena Ostapenko was literally overwhelmed by the world number nine. After just 21 minutes of play, the tenth place in the WTA rankings made the set lead perfect.
The second part of the game was more of a level playing field. Both players took each other’s serve games, but Ostapenko was unable to convert another break chance into something countable. After another break, Ons Jabeur secured his place in the quarter-finals in Madrid with the first match point. The winner of the game between Coco Gauff and Madison Keys is waiting there.
Haddad Maia wins against Sakkari
At the same time, Maria Sakkari and Beatriz Haddad Maia also played for a quarter-final ticket. Both players alternated between breaking chances in the first set. The world number six from Greece produced more errors and fell behind in sets.
The Greek couldn’t stop this in the second set and was eliminated after 1:50 hours of play. In the round of the last eight we will face world number one Iga Swiatek or Sara Sorribes Tormo.
