Novak Djokovic will not participate in the Masters 1000 in Madrid

Beaten a week ago by Casper Ruud in the semi-finals of the Masters 1000 in Monte-Carlo, only his third tournament this year, Novak Djokovic must give up the Masters 1000 in Madrid, which begins on Wednesday. This package, rather expected, was confirmed this Saturday by Serbian journalist Sasa Ozmo.

Already last year, the 36-year-old Serbian had to withdraw from the Spanish tournament due to discomfort in his right elbow. This did not prevent him from winning Roland Garros a few weeks later. This time again, the world number 1 should head to Rome (May 6-19) to best prepare for the French Grand Slam tournament (May 26-June 9).

In his absence, the Italian Jannik Sinner, world number 2, regains the number 1 seed in Madrid and the Frenchman Luca Van Assche, first on the waiting list, goes directly to the main draw.
