Nördlingen Women’s Basketball Raises Funds to Get Back on Track for the Bundesliga

After weeks of hanging around, Nördlingen women’s basketball can get back on track for the Bundesliga. Nils Gerstmeier, club spokesman for the “Eigner Angels”, confirmed to the BR studio Donau-Ries that around 71,000 euros had been raised through a crowdfunding campaign by Wednesday evening.

This meant that the self-imposed target of 75,000 euros was narrowly missed, but Gerstmeier expressed confidence that further financial commitments would emerge from the ongoing discussions with companies in the region. That’s why the license application was submitted to the German Basketball Bundesliga shortly before the deadline on Wednesday evening.

120,000 euros in donations are targeted

The club has to raise the money primarily to be able to staff its office with a permanent employee, as required by the league starting next season. Over the course of the season, the donation amount should ideally reach the 120,000 euro mark.

While women’s basketball from Swabia wants to free itself from an exceptional financial situation in this way, the Nördlinger “Angels” can look back on a particularly successful season: They were second in the cup competition and in the league they made it to the playoffs played. The club therefore aims to continue to be successful in the 17th first division season starting in the fall.
