NFL Introduces Five New Helmet Models for 2024 Season to Enhance Player Safety

Sports Editorial.- The NFL presented this Tuesday five new helmet models for the 2024 season that offer a significant advance in innovation in safety for players.

Thanks to these five new protective accessories, players will be able to choose between 12 helmet models depending on the position they occupy on the field.

“It’s a fantastic pace of innovation. Specific helmets are a central part of our effort to provide players with the best possible protection for their position.

Quarterbacks and linemen will have a range of custom helmets available, something we plan to do with more positions in the coming years,” said Jeff Miller, executive vice president of the NFL.

It will be the first time that players have to choose between 12 helmet options, depending on their position, which will provide greater safety since the design of each model is based on the game impact data that the league collects and shares with manufacturers of helmets.

Eight of the 12 top-rated helmets are designed for quarterbacks or offensive and defensive linemen.

Miller, who is in charge of overseeing the health and safety of the players, stressed that these additions are a consequence of the league’s continuous efforts to take care of its elements.

“We are proud to see so many new helmets continue the rapid pace of improvement we have seen over the last decade. I can say that there is an increasing availability of helmets for different positions,” he noted.

The NFL, in collaboration with the NFL Players Association (NFLPA), annually conducts laboratory tests that are conducted by jointly appointed biomechanical experts to evaluate which helmets best reduce the severity of head impact.

These high-performance helmets were also evaluated using position-specific testing methodologies. The tests recreate the impacts that players receive and generate according to their specialty.
