EAST RUTHERFORD — Los New York Giants They have done extensive work regarding the quarterbacks, facing the 2024 NFL Draft. It doesn’t mean they feel the need to select one, regardless of who is available when their turn comes.

Los Giants They will choose in sixth place in the first round of the Draft 2024, next week. Currently, they have Daniel Jones as their starting quarterback, and the newly signed free agent Drew Lockfollowing the Tommy DeVito completing the group of passers.

General manager Joe Schoen You don’t feel pressured to take on the position at any cost.

“I don’t think so,” he revealed. Schoen this Thursday, when asked if it was necessary to add a quarterback. “With the experience of Drewhas started matches and played, and the experience of Danieland what he did Tommy last year, and an additional year in our system, Tommy has advanced quite a bit. “I think we can go into the season with those three that we have, and I would be comfortable with that.”

Schoen reiterated that the Giants “we remain confident” in Jones, noting the way the young quarterback played during the 2022 season, when they won a playoff game. The Giants They signed him to a four-year, $160 million deal at the end of the season, but he can reasonably escape that contract at the end of next season.

Much has happened since then, including a miserable campaign for Jones which included another neck injury and a torn ACL in his right knee. Schoen He rejected, however, the premise presented by NFL Network analyst Rich Eisen that the team had “buyer’s remorse” over the lucrative deal.

“That’s not true,” he commented. Schoen.

That does not necessarily mean that the Giants They will begin the season with only those three quarterbacks on the roster. Schoen y el head coach Brian Daboll They spent a lot of time and resources evaluating quarterbacks during the pre-draft process.

Los Giants they had to J.J. McCarthy of Michigan, Drake Maye of North Carolinay Jayden Daniels of LSUamong others, for visits to the facilities, according to sources.

There are internal concerns in the building around Jones, given his injury history. Having already received the green light from the club’s owners to take a quarterback if they wish, the Giants They have kept their options open, in case the right opportunity presents itself, be it in turn No. 6, higher, or lower.

“It’s a good class of quarterbacks. I think it’s deep. You look at some of the guys and the amount of games some of them have played and started, it’s impressive,” he said. Schoen.

“I really haven’t seen a class like this with the number of quarterbacks who have started and played so many games at such a high level.

“It’s been really fun getting to know these guys. Again, it’s a unique position. There are a very limited number of humans on planet Earth who can play the position at a high level.”

The problem for the Giants It is the belief around the league that quarterbacks will be chosen in the first four spots of the first round. They could be forced to agree to an exchange with the New England Patriots o Arizona Cardinals in the No. 3 or No. 4 spots, respectively, in order to reach their desired quarterback. That would require draft capital and additional resources.

Los Giants They seem to have, at least, asked.

“I don’t think anyone is ready to move right now,” he described. Schoen. “I know people are listening. We all do that, from the teams behind us or coming up. Those exploratory talks and conversations are going to happen soon. …Those conversations are going to happen, over the next 42 or 78 hours, will start to happen. It gives you a sense of who is moving and who is not.”

Really, anything seems like an option at this point, especially if the quarterback isn’t realistically obtainable for the players. Giants. Among those options is redeeming to be relegated.

Schoen has been surprised by the number of calls he has received around the sixth overall turn from teams placed behind the Giants.

“Surprisingly, at No. 6, we’ve had a number of calls from people behind us,” he said. “I didn’t think we would have so much activity since [puesto N°] 6 by others behind us as we have had. Those are options, too, as we see it. If we go back, how far do we want to go?”

As you noticed Schoen, the draft depth this year is in the quarterbacks and wide receivers. Those could still be options, should they decide to move down the pick order.
