Two years ago, Nate Robinson went public with the news that he had been struggling with kidney failure for four years. With the diagnosis, he began to desperately hope for a donor kidney. Without a transplant, he doesn’t have much time left.

“I know I won’t have long to live. “So I just want to make the best of it as best I can,” Robinson told the Daily Mail.

Robinson’s everyday life currently revolves primarily around the dialysis machine. Robinson was very grateful for the treatment: “Some people’s bodies reject dialysis. And I thank God that my body accepts it and I can live. If I didn’t go on dialysis, I probably wouldn’t live longer than a week or two. So it’s serious, I can’t miss a day. I go for four hours, three days a week, four hours a day. They cleanse my blood to get the toxins out. And they help me a lot because that’s just how I live.”

Robinson emotional: “Every day is a blessing”

Despite the serious illness and treatment, the 39-year-old tries to live as normally as possible. Staying in touch with his friends and family and playing basketball are important to him.

“I don’t take it for granted,” he said: “I just stay as humble as possible and thank God for every opportunity. Every day is a blessing to be alive and able to do what I do every day.”

The point guard was with the New York Knicks in 2006 when he was informed that his high blood pressure had damaged his kidneys and he would likely suffer from kidney failure later on.

Nevertheless, Robinson managed a memorable career in the NBA – with a total of 6,807 points and three victories in the Slam Dunk Contest.
