NBA Playoff Picture Taking Shape as Lakers Face Potential Offseason Departures

The current NBA basketball season is about to reach its most exciting stage, the positions of the teams that qualified for the postseason are already being defined, either directly or through the play-in tournament.

In the specific case of the Los Angeles Lakers, they not only have in mind their current status in the current campaign but they also already have their possible casualties for the following season; Firstly, LeBron James, if he does not exercise the player option they have to stay for one more season, he would go to free agency to look for a new team.

LeBron would not be the only player with options to leave

But apart from ‘King’ James, there is another who would leave the Californian quintet and it is D’Angelo Russell who in recent months has proven his worth with extremely outstanding performances.

D’Angelo Russell has the player option to stay for one more season in exchange for $18.6 million, but according to insider Brian Windhorst revealed that the 28-year-old point guard would plan to decline, to try his luck in NBA free agency.

“I think it’s almost certain that he won’t exercise the option (with the Lakers),” Windhorst noted on The Hoop Collective.
