Montefiascone Tigers Dominate in Opening Matches of 2024 Championship with New Young Talent

The Under 12 team of the WiPlanet Tigers, strengthened this year with the contribution of the little ones from 2015, after the victory in the II Memorial Andrea Bologna, began the 2024 championship last Saturday, in Acilia, in a three-team concentration with the hosts Cali and Viterbo. In fact, this year the formula does not include single matches, but concentrations that reduce travel costs by playing more matches. This creates some problems in terms of the number of pitchers, but it should still be considered a positive experience. And the Montefiascone pitchers were the best prepared, thanks to the work of the technicians Olmedo and Russo, guaranteeing the team a supremacy over the opposing hitters which allowed the double victory. In the first match, against Viterbo, the starting pitcher Bellucci conceded only one point, while the yellow-green batters scored 4, thanks also to a nice home run by Zerbini. The people from Viterbo did not lose heart and closed the gap, reaching 8-5 at the end of the 2nd inning. But while the Faliscan attack scored another 4 points, Monte, with debutant Francesco Castellani, eliminated the last 6 Viterbo batters at the plate, thus setting the score at 12-5 for Montefiascone. In addition to Zerbini, both Alice and Leonardo Paiolo, Bellucci and debutant Coppola beat well. The second match against Cali Acilia did not go differently. The pitchers Leonardo Paiolo and Riccardo Castellani stopped the Roman attack well and already after the 1st inning the score was 4-0, and then settled at 13 to 6 for Wiplanet, with Zerbini, Matera, Riccardo Castellani in evidence in batting , Leonardo Paiolo and Denny Ferraro. Now the focus is on tomorrow’s double match in Viterbo at 10.30am and 1pm, with the Red Foxes as the third team, with the environment expecting confirmation of the good performance. It should be underlined that the inclusion of the little ones from 2015 (Francesco Castellani, Marco Coppola, Nicholas Fabene and Mattia Marenghi) was very positive and they, together with their minibaseball companions, equally prepared, but too young to play in the Under 12s, will participate on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 April at a tournament in Porto Sant’Elpidio, in the Marche region, reserved for Under 10s, a category that does not have a federal championship, but which is an excellent testing ground for young hopes.
