He warned that he would do it and it took him a handful of hours to fulfill his promise. The president of the Cenafe coaching school, Miguel Galanhas challenged the call for elections for the presidency of the RFEF that was called this afternoon by the management commission of Pedro Rocha. Galán has sent a challenge appeal on which the Sports Administrative Court must resolve within a period of seven days starting tomorrow.
Galán includes in his challenge, to which this newspaper has had access, the reasons why, in his opinion, Rocha’s electoral call contravenes current regulations. First of all, he states that 39 of the members of the assembly who must elect the new president no longer meet the requirements to be so for different reasons: players who are no longer in Spain, clubs that have changed categories, footballers who are now retired…
Along these lines, he defends that the new electoral regulations of the RFEF states that “partial elections will be held in the specialty, constituency and class in which the withdrawal occurred” and that this circumstance, obviously, has not occurred before the electoral call.
“Sexist” assembly
Galán also defends that the current assembly “does not comply with female voting quotas” included in the Ministerial Order that regulates federative elections. That is, there are fewer women in the assembly than the legal minimum, which did not exist in the previous Ministerial Order, approved in 2015, and which was used for the “sexist” composition of the current assembly, in 2020.
For all these reasons, Galán requests the TAD to “accept this appeal and the call for an extraordinary assembly to elect a new president of the RFEF is suspended and annulled“.
The electoral process must be activated this Friday and should lead to the election of a new president on May 6. Rocha will opt to be elected and this Wednesday he took the first step, by resigning as president of the management company, delegating that responsibility to Rafael del Amopresident of the Territorial Navarra and federation responsible for women’s football.
