Media: Rangnick continues to be discussed at Bayern

According to media reports, ÖFB team boss Ralf Rangnick has a good chance of becoming the new coach of FC Bayern. As a result, the 65-year-old German is increasingly becoming the focus of Munich’s search for a successor to Thomas Tuchel.

The former Bundesliga coach is the favorite for the position on Säbener Strasse, German and Austrian media reported on Tuesday. There are no official reports on this, and the ÖFB has not yet received any inquiries from Bayern regarding Rangnick.

Rangnick has a contract with the ÖFB until the end of the World Cup qualification at the end of 2025, which would automatically be extended until the summer of 2026 if he takes part in the finals in North America. There is no exit clause in the contract, so a transfer fee would be due if Bayern actually commit to the 65-year-old and Rangnick himself agrees to a commitment in Munich.

“Ralf Rangnick has a valid contractual relationship, the ÖFB has not received any inquiries. The full focus is on the UEFA Euro 2024,” ÖFB sports director Peter Schöttel told the APA. The national coach himself has always emphasized in connection with FC Bayern in recent weeks that his entire concentration was on preparing for the European Championships. If he leaves the ÖFB selection, he could only take up his position at Bayern after the tournament.
