Mayor Launches 2024 Scholarship Program for Athletes Competing Outside Comodoro Rivadavia

The mayor launched the 2024 Scholarship Program for Athletes. At the meeting, there was a discussion with the families of the Comodor athletes, who compete outside our city in different disciplines. The program reaches 32 scholarship athletes, but in the short term it is projected that the beneficiaries will be 40.

This Tuesday, in the facilities of the Sports Hotel, Mayor Othar Machishvili, together with the president of the Comodoro Deportes Autonomous Entity, Hernán Martínez, met with family members to provide support to those young people who practice different sports and study outside of Comodoro Rivadavia, with the aim that they can support themselves in their places of residence.

On the subject, the mayor expressed that this program began a long time ago and year after year, it continues to improve. “It fills us with pride that more and more kids are practicing in high competitions or other experiences and that, in addition, they can continue their studies.”

“This link with the clubs and parents is becoming more and more active, we join together to support the children with this program and so that they feel the effort that we all make: the parents and the State, with the resources of all the neighbors who “They contribute and believe that this project is important,” he highlighted, adding that “this is one of the central projects because we want the children to have the possibility of fulfilling their dreams. In some cases, they are training and playing in clubs with projection, in others they are already competing with national teams, looking for their records and improving them,” he concluded.

Looking for a future

For his part, Hernán Martínez explained that the beneficiaries are part of soccer, hockey, athletics, judo or aerobics teams, while they study. Evaluating the current context, the sports leader indicated that “in a difficult time, the athlete is awarded a scholarship and the State helps not only pay part of the rent, but also provides support and advice on whatever they need, including regarding clothing and/or equipment. The State has to be present, not only from the economic point of view, but also from the social accompaniment,” he summarized.

Meanwhile, Fabián Barbosa, father of the player of the Track Hockey team, María Azul, when referring to the help that his daughter, who is 20 years old and is studying kinesiology in Buenos Aires, receives, pointed out that “this sports scholarship is very important for the kids who are outside the city, because despite the difficult moment, the Municipality’s predisposition for sports is always very great.”
