Matthias Sammer’s Potential Increased Role at Borussia Dortmund

His influence could soon become greater!

Matthias Sammer (56) has been working as a consultant for Borussia Dortmund since 2018. But from next season onwards, the 1996 European champion could be even more involved than before.

Because before the quarter-final second leg of the Champions League against Atlético Madrid (live on Amazon Prime and here in the live ticker at bild.de) Sammer has not ruled out greater involvement with BVB from the summer onwards.

Moderator Sebastian Hellmann then asks expert Josephine Henning with a smile whether she could translate Sammer’s sentences. Because to him it sounds like Sammer would do it.

Henning: “I think there is a lot of use for ex-players in the football business.” Sammer won a Champions League title and two championships as a BVB player between 1993 and 1998.

Until now, Sammer’s consulting job seemed to be tied to the work of BVB boss Hans-Joachim Watzke (64). But Watzke will stop as managing director in autumn 2025.

Now Sammer could stay at BVB without Watzke…
