Martin Røjkjær Kjøbsted Honored with Badminton Denmark’s Talent Award 2024

In an emotional ceremony during the final day at the VICTOR Youth Championships (UDM) in Brøndby Hallen, it was announced that Martin Røjkjær Kjøbsted, a veteran in Danish badminton, is the winner of Badminton Denmark’s Talent Award 2024.

With a career spanning more than three decades, Røjkjær Kjøbsted has had a hand in countless successful badminton careers both as head coach for Aalborg Triton and as a youth coach at Brønderslev Badminton Club. It is in these roles that he has distinguished himself by developing talented players such as Magnus Johannesen, Jeppe Bruun, Kajsa Van Dalm, who just this weekend won the U19 DM in DS and not least his own daughter, Sofie Røjkjær.

“I am incredibly happy and proud, but also surprised. When I saw the other nominees, I already felt honored to simply be among such talented colleagues,” said Røjkjær Kjøbsted, who shared the nomination with well-known names such as Sune Gavnholt, Peter Gade and Kasper Dinesen.

His unique approach to training and development of players has not only benefited the high-profile athletes, but also the many children and young people who start their badminton journey under his guidance. “It’s a long cool move. I have been in the game for many years and have helped build something from small beginnings to the level we operate at now,” he explains.

Røjkjær Kjøbsted’s ability to work across different environments and his dedication to the sport have been noticed by colleagues as well as by players at all levels. His work emphasizes the importance of continuity and passion in the world of sports.

The talent developer of the year award is not only a recognition of Røjkjær Kjøbsted’s personal achievements, but also a symbol of the positive effect that dedicated coaches have on the foundations of the sport in Denmark.
