Ex-Djokovic coach Marjan Vajda doesn’t want to know anything about the swan songs about his former protégé. The Serb’s long-time coach believes that the record 24-time Grand Slam champion will come back: “So I don’t think he’s done winning and he’ll prove it again this year.” In 2024, Djokovic is 11:4 wins and has yet to win a title. In Monte Carlo he seemed to be getting going, but then suffered a 4-6, 6-1, 4-6 semi-final defeat against Casper Ruud.

Sinner is currently the strongest player

Vajda doesn’t worry about that, though. He believes that Djokovic is very consciously trying to build his form: “The biggest motivation for him is the Slams and the Olympics. So he has to find the time to prepare and train well, he can’t rely so much on the others Focus on tournaments.”

But he doesn’t see the Serb at the top of the ranking at the moment. For Vajda, Jannik Sinner is currently the strongest player in men’s tennis – and not his ex-protégé.
