SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – A man has been sentenced to 45 years in prison in connection with the 2021 shooting death of a former local football player.

The State Attorney’s office says that Nyquan Priester was sentenced to prison on April 15 for aggravated manslaughter in the death of Dylan Jenkins.

The narrative in court documents say that on Dec. 29, 2021, Priester and his friends drove to Ackerman Park for an outdoor gathering. Priester brought a gun along and made a comment that he wanted to the “air this *expletive* out.” He then fired six shots, one of which struck Jenkins, killing him.

Priester fled the state and was later captured in New York.

Jenkins was a former Riverview High School student and stand out athlete. He had just completed his first semester of college.
