Bayern Munich has achieved an easy victory in the Bundesliga. Without really great football, relegation candidate FC Köln was put aside 2-0. A major blemish on the match was Kingsley Coman’s apparently serious knee injury. In the meantime, Borussia Dortmund of Donyell Malen and Ian Maatsen had to play with one man less when visiting Borussia Mönchengladbach, but still managed to win thanks to a double by Marcel Sabitzer. However, Xavi Simons’ RB Leipzig retained fourth place by beating VfL Wolfsburg 3-0.

Bayern Munich – FC Cologne 2-0

The 0-0 halftime score suggested otherwise, but the first half in Munich was very entertaining. Both teams had some huge chances, but were unable to capitalize on them. Harry Kane and Mathys Tel came closest to the opening goal on behalf of the home team, but saw their shots explode onto the post. Raphael Guerreiro also failed face to face with goalkeeper Marvin Schwäbe. On the other hand, Sven Ulreich made a good save from a header by Sargis Adamyan.

After halftime the match settled down a bit, but after more than an hour of play, Bayern still took the lead. A short corner ended up with Guerreiro, who found the far corner with a beautiful swipe from outside the sixteen. After that, Bayern really slowed down and came away unscathed several times in the final phase. In injury time, Thomas Müller, after shooting in the Köln defense, put the final score on the board: 2-0.

The biggest blemish on the match, however, was Coman’s injury. Just after halftime he cut down his opponent, after which he immediately grabbed his knee. This means bad news for Thomas Tüchel in the run-up to the return match in the Champions League against Arsenal, where he will also have to do without the injured Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sané.

Borussia Monchengladbach – Borussia Dortmund 1-2

Dortmund was the better at Borussia-Park from the start, but that did not result in great opportunities. Midway through the first half, Sabitzer gave the visitors the lead. A nice deep pass from Nico Schlotterbeck was beautifully shot in by the Austrian, who made it 0-2 a few minutes later. Alassane Pléa tapped Schlotterbeck in the box, after which Sabitzer converted the penalty. Just before half time, it was ex-Ajax player Maximilian Wöber who headed in the tying goal from a corner.

After the break, Sabitzer seemed to have scored his hat trick, but VAR reversed the decision after the penalty was taken. A little later, Karim Adeyemi added some extra tension to the match by picking up his second yellow card. Dortmund had to survive with ten men for more than half an hour, but won, leaving Leipzig breathing down their necks in the battle for fourth place.

RB Leipzig – VfL Wolfsburg 3-0

Leipzig took the lead after thirteen minutes. Dani Olmo cleverly turned away from his opponent on the edge of the penalty area, after which he found the bottom left corner with a hard shot. We had to wait until halfway through the second half for the second goal. On a pass from Xavi Simons, Benjamin Sesko was able to round off: 2-0.

With that the match was over. In the final phase, Leipzig led even further. Loïs Openda had a good look at Olmo in the first half, as he beautifully turned away from his opponent and then finished coolly. It was the 22nd goal for Openda this season in the Bundesliga.
