Luka Doncic’s Dominance Praised by Dirk Nowitzki

Dirk Nowitzki raves about Luka Doncic

Doncic already has more 35-point games than Nowitzki in his entire career, and the Slovenian has already been named to the All-NBA First Team four times (Nowitzki also four). In addition, with 60 and 73 points in January, Doncic twice exceeded the former franchise record for points in a game, which was set by Nowitzki in December 2004 (53 points against Houston) and stood for over 18 years.

“He simply has no gaps in his game,” noted Nowitzki. “Every year I say the kid can’t get any better and then he comes back with more in his repertoire. (…) I hope Mavs fans will enjoy him for a long time.”

This season, Doncic will take the scoring crown for the first time; the 25-year-old is averaging 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds and 9.8 assists per game. Just the day before in Charlotte, Doncic had broken another Mavericks record. With 2,370 points in the season, the guard broke Mark Aguirre’s 40-year-old record (2,330 points in 1983/84). Incidentally, Nowitzki’s best scoring season was 2005/06, when Dallas reached the finals for the first time, when the Dirkster accumulated 2,151 points in 81 games.
