Lucas Pouille Misses Opportunity for Victory at Estoril After Dominating Gasquet

Coming from qualifying – he notably dominated Richard Gasquet, finally drafted – Lucas Pouille missed a great opportunity to secure a third victory at Estoril. The 30-year-old Northerner ended up losing (0-6, 7-6 [6]6-3) against Nuno Borges (62nd), Monday.

The first 45 minutes were largely to the advantage of Pouille, not destabilized by a first interruption due to rain. Very offensive as usual, the 241st in the world overtook Borges, stunned and annoyed at being stepped on in front of his audience. At 6-0, 2-0, the 27-year-old Portuguese revolted, stopped suffering and the match was rebalanced. The second set ended with a decisive game won by the local after saving a match point from a winning service.

And, always as offensive, Borges, coached by his compatriot Rui Machado (ex-59th ATP), logically dominated Pouille in the last round by breaking at 3-3 then at 5-3. He joins Lorenzo Musetti (24th), seeded number 3 in the tournament, in the second round.
