No ambitions of her own, that was the fate for Lotte Kopecky in the Flèche Wallonne. She had to assist Demi Vollering, but she came second. Kopecky finished fifteenth.
“The most important thing was to place Demi in a good position at the foot and respond to late attacks, in order to relieve the team,” Kopecky told Het Laatste Nieuws.
She could live perfectly with her special role. “I actually enjoyed myself. It was nice to start with a different attitude. Sometimes it is difficult with the many expectations.”
The conditions, due to wind and weather, did not make it an easy race, but the world champion made it through her first participation unscathed.
