LFP Considers Adjusting Schedule for PSG and OM in Ligue 1 Season

It’s a real headache that lies ahead for the LFP until the end of the Ligue 1 season. According to several media this Thursday, the Professional Football League is considering adjusting the schedule of PSG and OM , the last two French teams entered in Europe. The League intends to protect these clubs to allow them to best prepare for their final European events and thus “ensure maximum places for French clubs” in continental competitions. A proposal which will be put to a vote on Friday to the League’s board of directors.

PSG, who will face Dortmund in the semi-final of the Champions League, will play their first leg on May 1 and the return on May 7. OM, qualified for the last four of the Europa League, will face Atalanta Bergamo during the same period. Until then, OM have three L1 matches to play.

Matches rescheduled between the last two days of Ligue 1

At this stage, the Parisians must face Nice on May 3 for the 32nd day. The LFP will also propose to postpone the Reims – OM meeting. Which is not to please the clubs concerned. OGC Nice and Le Havre, which is due to meet Paris on April 27 and which could also see its match postponed, have expressed their disagreement over this change in schedule.

If the matches are rescheduled, they should then be held between the 33rd and penultimate day of the championship on May 11 and the 34th and final day, May 18, both dedicated to multiplexes.

“The good news is that Paris qualified without a great Mbappé”

It is in the general interest of the League

“We are not unaware of the impact and difficulties that this represents for the opponents of the clubs concerned, but it is in the general interest of the League to ensure a maximum of places for French clubs in the European Cups. Europe and in particular in the Champions League in the years to come”, explains the LFP, adding that “this was rather profitable for PSG during its quarter-final”.

Paris, Marseille and Lille did not play last weekend, their matches on behalf of the 29th day having been postponed in order to maximize preparation for their quarter-final return legs. These meetings have been rescheduled for the week of April 24.
