Latvian handball players conclude the qualification of the European Championship with a devastating loss to France

Latvia lost to the French handball players with 9:53 (7:24).

Patricija Elizabete Pruse scored three goals, two goals were scored by Linda Kanepe and Madara Cibulska, while Agnese Sidorova and Eliza Bilkšte beat the French goalkeeper one more time.

Polina Koatanea was the most productive among the winners with ten accurate shots.

Latvians started qualifying for the European Championship last October in Slovenia, losing to their opponents with 13:51, but three days later in Dobele they lost to world and Olympic champion France with 8:55. At the turn of February and March, Latvia lost to Italy twice – at home with 14:32 and away with 8:43, but on Thursday Latvia recognized the superiority of Slovenia for the second time at home with 16:34.

After six rounds of matches, France has 12 points, Slovenia has eight and Italy has four, but Latvia ended the qualification without points.

Latvian handball players started their preparations for the final qualification stage on Wednesday at the training camp in Dobele, but every day every player prepared individually for the matches.

The two best teams of the eight groups and the four best third-place holders enter the final tournament of the European Championship.

A place in the final tournament, which will take place in November and December in Austria, Switzerland and Hungary, is already guaranteed for all three host countries, as well as for the current title holder Norway.

The Latvian women’s national team is led by “Latgols” club coach Māris Cibulskis and REIR/Dobeles SS team coach Larisa Veinberga.
