Lakers Close Regular Season with Bittersweet Taste: Anthony Davis Injury Scare Ahead of Playoffs

The regular season ended for the Lakers with a bittersweet taste. Darvin Ham’s men closed by transmitting good feelings in sports and passing over the Pelicans, which assured them the 8th place in the West and a play-in crossing against, precisely, New Orleans. But it was not all good news, as the Angelenos were shocked when they saw Anthony Davis having to be treated due to back problems, a scare that, according to the player himself, seems however to come to nothing.

The action that triggered these problems took place with 5 minutes left, when Davis received a push from Larry Nance Jr. in the fight for a rebound. According to the center, his back suffered hyperextension upon landing and felt as if it were blocked, which caused him some spasms and forced him to head to the locker room to receive treatment.

However, given the importance of the duels that are to come, La Ceja is clear that he will be present: “I am going to play, I have no doubt.”

More NBAList of top scorers in NBA history

Davis, who finished the match with 30 points and 11 rebounds, is called upon to be a fundamental part of any success that the Angelenos have in the postseason, since his impact on both sides of the court will mark how far they can go. His physical problems have historically been a problem, but this year, with 77 games played, he has experienced his healthiest season since his arrival in Los Angeles and he is not willing to let that change with the arrival of the playoffs. In fact, he himself assured that if there had been something more at stake he would have continued on the track, but that with his team up 21 there was no point in continuing.

The Lakers will play again in New Orleans tomorrow night, in a clash that, for whoever wins, will be worth the final qualification for the playoffs and a tie against Denver. For its part, the loser will have to face the winner of the Kings-Warriors for the last ticket to the postseason, in this case with a match against the Thunder on the horizon.
