Lakers book play-off duel with defending champions

The Los Angeles Lakers won their play-in duel with the New Orleans Pelicans in the National Basketball League (NBA) on Tuesday and became the seventh team in the Western Conference to qualify for the play-offs.

The record champions secured seventh place in the Western Conference seeding list with a 110:106 win in New Orleans and will now face defending champion Denver Nuggets.

“We punched our ticket to the postseason, that’s a good win,” said Lakers superstar LeBron James. Regarding the repeat of the Western Conference finals from last season, when the Nuggets won clearly, he said: “It’s a difficult test of strength, we have to make it difficult for them. They will make it difficult for us.”

The Pelicans still have another chance to advance. Zion Williamson’s team, whose 40 points against the Lakers were not enough, will face the Sacramento Kings on Friday. The team from the Californian capital eliminated Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors with a 118:94 win.
