Korea Sports Council Implements ‘CARE-FULL Project’ for 2024 Paris Olympics – Specialized Care and Support for Top Performance

‘5 major specialized care’, medical and scientific support, advance camp establishment
Chairman Lee Ki-heung “We expect 5 gold medals and top 15 overall, we may fall further… We will actively support” The Korea Sports Council is taking ‘special measures’ to improve the performance of the Korean athletes, who are expected to have ‘the smallest number of players ever’ at the 2024 Paris Olympics, which is 100 days away. prepared.

On the 17th, the Korea Sports Council held an encouragement event for the D-100 national team at the Paris Olympics at the National Athletes’ Village in Jincheon, North Chungcheong Province, and announced its support plan.

This support plan, named the ‘CARE-FULL Project’, which means providing holistic care in various aspects, is largely divided into three sectors.

▲ Operation of five specialized care teams ▲ One-on-one customized medical and scientific support (Medidot Support) ▲ Provision of a training environment for local adaptation (V2V·Village to Victory).

The five major care teams are divided into psychology, recovery, nutrition, balance, and customization and are operated to provide professional support.

Athletes are provided with treatment and coaching by sports psychiatrists and counseling experts, and programs for quick recovery and recovery conditioning experts are also utilized.

Customized counseling and meal plans are provided through individual nutritional analysis, and Pilates classes are also held separately in the athletes’ village to help athletes maintain physical balance.

‘Customization’ includes increasing the number of training personnel according to field requests or supporting external experts that reflect the characteristics of the event.

The main purpose of ‘Medidot Support’ is to provide close medical management and on-site medical support for major players, as well as providing video analysis teams for each sport or customized training for each individual.

This includes providing customized shoe insoles by analyzing changes in foot pressure for fencing and badminton players, or providing a training system tailored to the Olympic stadium environment for the archery team.

In addition, the Sports Council decided to set up an outpost for the athletes at the National Defense Sports Center (CNSD) in Fontainebleau, France to help them quickly adapt to the local environment.

The pre-camp, which runs from July 12 to August 11, consists of three indoor and three outdoor training facilities, one support facility building, one restaurant building, and three lodging buildings.

Here too, medical and imaging support and nutritional management are provided without fail, and customized diets for each event or high-quality Korean food are provided.

The Korea Sports Council explained that it prepared this secret plan after deciding that detailed and special support was needed as Korea’s continued decline in performance was revealed, such as ranking only 16th overall at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

Lee Ki-heung, president of the Korea Sports Council, said, “According to recent trends, we expect to rank around 15th in the overall ranking with 5 gold medals, but there are concerns that in some cases, we may fall below 20th place.” He added, “The Sports Council will support athletes so that they can perform at their best.” “he said.

Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Jang Mi-ran said, “Looking at the Olympic goals and rankings, I feel regretful that our country’s place in sports seems to be narrowing. We will do our best to ensure that athletes can exercise in a stable environment with good support.”

“I hope that, as I have endured well so far, I will be careful of injuries, take care of my physical and mental health, and play without regrets,” he said.

Athletes who were promised active support pledged to do well.

Hwang Seon-woo (Gangwon Provincial Office), a leading figure in swimming, said, “During this year’s World Championships, they invited a video analyst to check the video after the competition, which was a great help. If this kind of help continues, it will be a great help to Korean swimming.”

Im Si-hyeon (Korea National Sport University), who won three archery medals at the Hangzhou Asian Games, said, “The archery team’s goal is to win five gold medals.

“Personally, I really want to win the team event,” he said, adding, “I will prepare with a sense of responsibility as I am in a position that everyone wants to advance to.”
