Juwan Howard Joins Brooklyn Nets as Assistant Coach: A Fresh Start After University of Michigan Dismissal

A few weeks after his dismissal from the University of Michigan, which offered one of the worst seasons in its NCAA history, Juwan Howard bounced back with the Nets. He joined Jordi Fernandez’s staff as an assistant, after five years in college and with the experience of six seasons at the Heat as an assistant to Erik Spoelstra. Bringing a little culture to Brooklyn, a good idea on paper.

The Nets have arguably been the most “meh” team in the league this season. Understand by this that there was not much to watch apart from Cam Thomas’ hot shots. Mikal Bridges didn’t explode, Brooklyn had a regular, tasteless performance and came out with the same overall disinterest that we had in the editorial office when it was time to click on their matches.

The reason for hope? The arrival of Jordi Fernandez as coach, which indicates Brooklyn’s desire to implement strong playing principles and develop the players present in the trendiest district of New York. To help him? Juwan Howard. Dismissed by Michigan after five years on the university bench, the man who spent 6 seasons alongside Erik Spoelstra in Miami – notably during the 2013 title – is hired to bring experience to the relatively young Nets group . The idea? Develop profiles, teach players to best manage the different moments of a match. As an NBA player, Howard was a champion with the Heat and an All-Star in 1996.
