The stars are seeking to alter the outcome of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Golden Knights.

“To reiterate, our teams have distinct identities this year.”

In their previous matchup on December 9th, the Golden Knights defeated the Stars with a score of 6-1. At that time, Vegas was leading the West while the Stars were in contention for the top spot in the Central Division alongside two other teams. However, as the regular season progressed, Dallas secured the top seed in the conference while Vegas fought for third place in the Pacific Division until their final game. On Thursday, the Golden Knights suffered a 4-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks, dropping them down to the second wild card spot and setting up a first round matchup against the Stars.

“The core members of that team remain unchanged. They will maintain their play style and identity,” stated Matt Duchene, forward for the Stars, when discussing the Golden Knights. “We are aware of what to anticipate from them and I’m sure they have similar thoughts about us. While they may be playing at a different level now, they have also added some new players. They have the potential to elevate their game, or remain at the level they have been at recently. Ultimately, we are prepared for whatever they bring. We will face them with our best and expect the same from them, as that is the caliber of team they are.”

Las Vegas made three new additions to their roster, including defenseman Noah Hanifin, forwards Anthony Mantha and Tomas Hertl, in preparation for the NHL Trade Deadline on March 8. The team has also faced numerous injuries throughout the season. Dallas made a trade for defenseman Chris Tanev from Calgary prior to the Deadline, and on March 2, they brought rookie forward Logan Stankoven onto the team. Stankoven had an impressive start, scoring eight points (five goals, three assists) in his first six games in the NHL.

Both teams’ dynamics have shifted due to injuries and trades since their previous matchup, and they will now face each other in Game 1 in Dallas on Monday at 9:30 p.m. Eastern Time on ESPN, BSSW, and SCRIPPS.

The Dallas Stars will once again face the Vegas Golden Knights to kick off the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Vegas knocked them out of the playoffs last year in Game 6 of the Western Conference Final.

The coach of the Stars, Pete DeBoer, mentioned that the team acknowledges the significance of the previous season’s opponent, who ultimately won the Stanley Cup. It is not the sole focus, but it is a part of the team’s history and journey.
