Judo Girls from TV Kaufbeuren Shine at Bavarian Championships in Wörth an der Donau

“There were only two left,” said judo department head Dieter Zimmermann, who, together with Steven Oslath, looked after the two judo girls from TV Kaufbeuren at the Bavarian Judo Individual Championships in Wörth an der Donau. The result was pleasing that the two athletes Elisaveta Orel and Sophia Bauer were able to fight their way into the top ten, at the highest level that can be achieved in judo in the U13 age group.

With two wins in the preliminary round against Fanny Liv van der Zwaag from Fürth and Ana Progie from Munich Großhadern, Elisaveta Orel scored unchallenged. In the final she could no longer maintain her concentration and ultimately became Bavarian runner-up in the +57 kg weight class.

Sophia Bauer got off to a bad start, suffering a defeat in her opening fight against Mariia Schlykova from Kronach. She then sought her luck in the energy-demanding consolation round. With three wins, the Kaufbeuren resident worked her way to the small final. Here she was too impressed by Nasyrova Merdzahn from Großhadern and, after another defeat, took 5th place in the weight class up to 36 kg.

Steven Oslath was nevertheless satisfied: “With Sophia Bauer, the youngest of the year, and Elisaveta Orel, who will also be able to compete again next year in the U13 age group, we have two judoka who can have a say again.” “There are already a few in the junior section in the starting blocks that will definitely be involved,” assured Dieter Zimmermann confidently.
