Judo Coach Sentenced to 21 Years for Sexual Assault: A Shocking Case of Abuse in Cusco

A court in Arequipa sentenced the judo coach of a club in the city of Cusco, Waldir Curi Sota, to 21 years in prison for the crime of sexual rape against one of his 16-year-old students.

In an oral trial that took place in Arequipa, the prosecutor in the case, Janellyn Myra, maintained that the aggrieved minor traveled to the city of Arequipa with the aggressor and the delegation of athletes, from November 4 to 6, 2022. She would participate in the IV San Sebastián and León del Sur 2022 Cup, so everyone stayed in a hotel in the Mariano Melgar district.

On the last day of the championship, the convicted man tricked the student into his room where he abused her. The minor fainted due to the pressure exerted by the coach.

The victim told what happened to her school assistant, who then notified her parents, and later filed a complaint with the authorities.

At trial, the reported facts and criminal responsibility of the accused were corroborated.
