Jorge Mier could miss the rest of the season at Amorebieta

Bad news for Amorebieta, who could be left for the remainder of the season without one of their most versatile pawns in defense. And Jorge Mier suffers “a complete tear of the anterior peroneal-talar ligament of his left ankle”, as reported by the Urritxe club in a statement.

The estimated recovery period for an injury of this type, with conservative treatment, is at least six weeks, just the approximate time remaining until the end of the Second Division campaign. A severe setback for both the team and the player himself, who in recent days had once again had an important presence on the green.

The injury occurred during the course of the first weekly training session on Monday in a fortuitous incident. Jorge Mier left the Urritxe facilities with crutches and his ankle noticeably swollen, with clear expressions of pain. At first, given how bad he looked, he even feared a broken fibula. The MRI he underwent yesterday afternoon confirmed that his bone is not affected, but that the ligament is completely torn.

During these days, Mier has been working in the gym with the physios. Yesterday he himself could be seen ‘walking’ with crutches in Urritxe, resting his foot very lightly on the ground. Without losing his usual smile, he seemed resigned and waiting to know the definitive extent of his injury, confirmed today.

Jandro is thus left without his wild card for the defensive line, since Mier has occupied practically all positions in recent weeks. He has played as an improvised center back to make up for Bustinza’s loss due to suspension, he has also played at left back with a changed leg, in addition to having minutes in his usual position, right back.
