BARCELONA, 9 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) underwent surgery on his clavicle at the hospital to which he was transferred after his ugly fall in Itzulia, and will still have to spend the “next few weeks” recovering before being able to return. Get on the bike and continue with your season.

“Jonas underwent successful surgery on his collarbone. He will now spend the next few weeks recovering. It is not yet clear how long this will last,” the team announced in a statement on Tuesday.

In addition, they assure that the current double champion of the Tour de France is “well” and that he appreciates all the messages and “kind words” received in recent days, in which he has been admitted to the hospital.

Vingegaard suffered a broken collarbone, several broken ribs, a lung contusion and a pneumothorax as effects of the fall.

All this after a massive fall that affected, among others, the then leader of the race Primoz Roglic (BORA-hansgrohe) and Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step), although Vingegaard was taken on a stretcher, motionless, to an ambulance before of being able to be transferred to a hospital, where he remains “stable” after this intervention.

An ugly fall in a tight bend that left several cyclists fallen into a ditch, including Roglic and Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates) who was also hospitalized to rule out neurological damage, and others fallen in the forest, such as Evenepoel, Natnael Tesfatsion (Lidl-Trek) or Sean Quinn (EF Education-EasyPost).
