Jonas Vingegaard successfully operated on his left clavicle

Five days after being the victim of a violent fall on the descent of the Olaeta pass during the Tour of the Basque Country, the Dane Jonas Vingegaard underwent successful surgery on his left collarbone at the Txagorritxu hospital in Vitoria where he should still stay for a few days for observation. After his fall, a pulmonary contusion, pneumothorax and several broken ribs were also diagnosed.

This Tuesday, its Visma-Lease a Bike team clarified that its Danish leader would now “spend the next few weeks recovering” while indicating that it did not know how long this would take. While the Tour de France begins in three months (June 29-July 21), it is already known that the outgoing double winner will not go to the altitude training planned with his team in Sierra Nevada in May.

“He (Vingegaard) will only start if he is 100%,” Marijn Zeeman, sporting director of the Dutch team, recently told the Belgian daily Het Laatste Nieuws.
