Jamal Murray makes decisive basket over Davis, Nuggets beat Lakers and take a 2-0 lead in the series

DENVER (AP) — Jamal Murray hit a step-back jumper at the buzzer and the Denver Nuggets erased a 20-point second-half deficit to upset the Los Angeles Lakers 101-99 on Monday night and take 2-0 lead in their Western Conference playoff series.

The agonizing basket by Murray, who fell after taking the shot, represented the first lead for the Nuggets since they took a 5-3 lead in the first minutes and gave the reigning NBA champions their 10th consecutive victory over the Lakers.

The series moves to Los Angeles for Game 3 on Thursday night.

Murray’s decisive shot came after LeBron James missed from long range with 16 seconds left and the score tied at 99.

Michael Porter Jr. grabbed the rebound with 13 seconds left and the Nuggets did not call a timeout.

Instead, Murray took the ball to the right with the defensive mark of Anthony Davis, stepped back and swished the basket just as the buzzer sounded. Both Murray and Davis fell on the Nuggets bench as the roar of the crowd shook Ball Arena.
