Ajax has not yet released the outcome of the investigation into the actions of Sven Mislintat as director of football affairs. Although the investigation into possible conflicts of interest in the purchase of players has been completed, the suspension of general manager Alex Kroes has ensured that the press release, ‘which is already ready’, will not be shared with the outside world for the time being.

Mislintat’s dismissal at the end of September followed revelations from the NOS about possible conflicts of interest. Ajax bought Borna Sosa on the final day of the transfer period through a German agent’s office that owns shares in a private company of the German. Ajax was not aware of this and contacted the accounting and consultancy firm KPMG.

Ajax planned to issue a press release this week about the outcome of the investigation. “That is ready, but is now overshadowed by what is happening here,” Supervisory Board chairman Michael van Praag refers to Kroes, who is said to have traded in Ajax shares with insider information. “We will have to call an extraordinary shareholders’ meeting. We have to see whether it makes sense to deal with both issues, Kroes and Mislintat, at once, since you are already meeting anyway. You may have to meet for a whole day. That is also sometimes fun.”

Mislintat’s period at Ajax ended in a fiasco. Although the director of football affairs spent more than a hundred million euros on players, the team dropped to last place in the Eredivisie. He was fired in September after just four months due to ‘a lack of support’. Mislintat will soon return to Borussia Dortmund as director. German media reported on Monday that he will sign a long-term contract with the Champions League quarter-finalist this week.

According to Sky Deutschland, BILD and Ruhr Nachrichten, Mislintat will take up the position of sporting or technical director at the current number four in the Bundesliga. Mislintat previously worked at Dortmund for eleven years. He served as a scout, head scout and technical director at the top club. He then played for Arsenal, VfB Stuttgart and Ajax.
