Introducing Schoolchildren to Pétéca: A Fusion of Volleyball and Badminton

Paulhac. The schoolchildren discovered the Pétéca. Lucas Lhoste, sports educator from the La Loco association in Saint-Beauzire, accompanied by sports initiators seeking asylum hosted at Cada, intervened several times at the Paulhac school to introduce students, from the Middle section to CM2 , at Pétéca: a traditional Brazilian sport, between volleyball and badminton.

The activity consists of exchanging the Pétéca by hand, a sort of large shuttlecock made of four large feathers on a rubber base between two players on either side of a net. The objective, beyond the sporting aspect, also concerns a civic dimension: meeting others, discovering other cultures.

It was, in fact, the second time that members of La loco visited the Paulhac school; the first intervention took place with after-school children.

The Pétéca activity, which requires developing reflexes and motor skills, was well received, amused and interested the players, but it remains very difficult for the youngest children.
