After the draw against Cagliari, Inter Milan can confirm the scudetto next week. Inter can lock the title as long as they win the derby against AC Milan.
Inter were matched by Cagliari in the Serie A continuation at the Giuseppe Meazza, Monday (15/4/2024) early morning WIB. The Nerazzurri had to be satisfied with one point after drawing 2-2 against the visitors.
In other matches, Milan also failed to win when they visited Sassuolo headquarters. Milan drew 3-3.
That means Inter and Milan are still 14 points apart in the Italian League standings after 32 matches. Inter is at the top with 83 points, followed by Milan with 69 points.
Inter and Milan will next meet at the Derby della Madoninna, Tuesday (23/4/2024) early morning WIB. To mathematically secure the 2023/2024 Serie A title, Inter needs a difference of 16 points after the match against Milan.
That means Inter must win over Milan next week to lock up the Scudetto. If successful in doing so, Inter’s lead over Milan in the standings will widen to 17 points.
“Obviously it will be fun. We will prepare for the big derby on Monday and try to play as well as possible,” said Inter coach Simone Inzaghi as reported by Football Italia.
“If we cross the finish line on Monday, that’s even better, but if not then we’ll keep going and there’s still another game after that.”
“We know what awaits us, Milan is in second place and will definitely do their best in front of their supporters.”
