National ice hockey player Moritz Seider and the Detroit Red Wings have suffered a setback in the race for the NHL playoffs.

The team around the 23-year-old defender lost 1-2 in the North American professional league against their direct rivals, the Washington Capitals, and is now one point behind the Capitals in the fight for the second wild card in the East. The Red Wings have not made the playoffs since the 2015-16 season.

The Seattle Kraken, on the other hand, celebrated a 5-0 win against the Arizona Coyotes thanks to goalkeeper Philipp Grubauer. The 32-year-old stopped all 38 shots on goal, helping Seattle to its second win in a row.

Without Tim Stützle, the Ottawa Senators lost 0-2 to the Florida Panthers. John-Jason Peterka also suffered a 2:3 defeat at the Dallas Stars with the Buffalo Sabres, Nico Sturm lost with the San Jose Sharks 2:3 after overtime against the Calgary Flames and, like Peterka, remained without a scorer point.

However, Sturm, Peterka, Stützle and Grubauer and their teams no longer have a chance of making the playoffs.
