Austria’s national team clearly lost the first comparison with Slovenia. The selection of the Austrian Ice Hockey Association (ÖEHV) had to admit defeat on Thursday in Ljubljana after an early 0:3 deficit with 2:5 (0:3 1:1 1:1). The chance for revenge against the B nation, which was almost in its best formation, will be available on Friday (6 p.m.) in Villach.

“Of course I wasn’t happy with the first third. The Slovenians were more aggressive, we weren’t really ready. From the second third onwards it was a normal game, I was quite satisfied from the second third onwards,” said team boss Roger Bader. “We absolutely missed the start. In the second third we found our game a little more, but the bottom line was that it wasn’t enough,” said defender Nico Brunner.
Slovenia, which has its World Cup tournament at the beginning of May and is therefore further along in its preparation, was already 3-0 ahead after just twelve minutes. Ken Ograjensek (2nd), Nik Simsic (8th) and Anze Kuralt (12th) defeated goalkeeper Max Zimmermann. After conceding the fourth goal (34th), the Austrians reduced the lead to 2:4 thanks to Brunner (39th/PP) and Senna Peeters (47th), but conceded another goal in the finish (58th).
