Honoring the Legacy of Teo Blázquez: The Renaming of Can Burgos Sports Center

From today the Can Burgos sports center becomes the Teo Blázquez Sports Center. For many years this space was the sports house of the main promoter of judo in Ibiza. Blázquez, who died in November of last year, was the founder of the Sant Jordi Judo Club in 1986 and an island delegate of this sport for more than 30 years.

The Sant Josep City Council approved this change in the plenary session on February 29, which was made official this Friday with the discovery of the plaque. It was Teo’s widow, Cati Mayans, who was in charge of unveiling this plaque at the most emotional moment of the afternoon. At the event, in addition to being present representatives of the institutions and of Ibizan sport, with the great names of Ibizan judo, such as Víctor Canseco, Juan Carlos Barcos, president of the Royal Spanish Judo Federation, and the president of the Federation were also present. Balearic Judo, Miquel Àngel Bisquerra.

From Sant Jordi, a club now managed by his son Juanfran, they thanked the gesture “since for us it is a way to pay tribute to Teo Blázquez, founder of the club and the person who has done the most for our sport on the island.”

The plaque was not the only thing that has been inaugurated, the club has also made a small museum with memories of the achievements of Teo Blázquez as the main promoter of Ibizan judo.

SECOND STAGE

This event also serves as the inauguration of the second Teo Blázquez Stage. The stage will be held from Friday to Sunday with the presence of the brothers and national teachers David and Javier Ramírez, who will direct the training and who will also have Daniel Pions as a surprise guest in this second edition. All of them have been Spanish champions and international medalists.
In addition to having top-level former competitors such as the guest teachers in charge of directing the stage, there will be top-level national and international competitors with very important medals even in the World Championship today, such as Adriana Sáez, Aharón Santamaría, Román Amaro, Rocío Arcones and Izan Prado.
