Home Run: Bavarian Baseball Academy Dominates German Team at U18 European Championship

Home game in two respects: At the U18 European Championship in July, the Bavarian Baseball Academy has the most players in the German squad.

The U18 European Championship from July 8th to 14th is one of the highlights that baseball fans will see this year in the Armin Wolf Arena. For many players in the German team it will be a home game in two respects. With six nominees from the Bavarian Baseball Academy, Regensburg represents the largest block in the German team.

A total of ten Academy players nominated

National coach Georg Bull has named Matthias Bullmann, Owen Fierlbeck, Domenic Rauwolf, Julian Siegert-Bomhard, Matthias Vogl and Jona Widmann to the team for the European Championships. The Regensburg Gateway tournament is already on the team’s agenda in the week before the European Championships.

Players from the Regensburg Academy will not only be represented in the German team. Nestor Sola and Anderson Pena will start for Spain. Florent Riep will play for France. The Italian roster includes a player, Edoardo Cornelli, who has now made the leap from the academy to the Guggenberg Legionnaires’ Bundesliga team and is part of the regular squad there.

Martin Brunner, founder and sporting director of the Academy, sees the nominations as confirmation of the good work on all sides: “A strong team is the basis for individual top performance. Both with the coaching staff and with the players. We are proud of the nomination of our players, who can rightly be proud of being top performers. The official tournaments for the national team are always special milestones in the long-term development. Seeing ten Academy players play in front of our own stadium in front of our own crowd is something special for all of us. We are looking forward to it!”
