Once again and with an anticipation competition still to be held, Artiguan judoka Henry Borges secured his qualification for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, which will mark his fifth presence in the competition.

Borges, at 40 years old, is in fifth place in the world ranking in the J1 category for less than 60 kilograms, which is why he secured his Olympic place, which is framed for the seven best placed, a place from which he will no longer be able to go down.

In the absence of only one scoring competition, which will be in Georgia on May 18 and 19 with the participation of the Uruguayan, the International Sports Federation for the Blind (IBSA) confirmed the historic achievement of the two-time Parapan American champion.

Borges competed representing Uruguay in four Olympic Games: Athens 2004 (seventh and diploma), Beijing 2008 (ninth), Rio de Janeiro 2016 (fifth and diploma), Tokyo 2020 (eleventh) and now he will do so in Paris 2024.

With this, he surpassed Andrés Silva (athletics), Alejandro Foglia (sailing) and Milton Wynants (cycling) as the Uruguayans with the most presence at the level of the biggest event in world sport.

In addition, he was a two-time champion of the Parap American Games (Toronto 2015 and Lima 2019), adding to his record the silver medal in the Rio de Janeiro 2007 edition and the bronze medal in Santiago 2024.

On the current path to qualification, the Uruguayan managed to win the gold medal in the Grand Prix of Tokyo (Japan) in 2023. He also won bronze in the Grand Prix of Heidelberg (Germany) and Alexandria (Egypt) in 2023, which speaks of its wonderful world level. In the debut of this campaign, he was third in the Baku World Cup in 2022. In total he has participated in six events so far, collecting medals in five of them (one gold and four bronzes).

Borges competes in the J1 category, which groups together those who are totally blind or have light perception.
