Heavenly Hero: The Life-Saving Legacy of Mr. Kang’s Organ Donation

Korea Organ Donation Agency, Mr. Kang’s brain-dead organ donation and human tissue donation

The late Kang Jin-sik, a college student who dreamed of becoming a firefighter, saved five lives through organ donation and went to heaven.

The Korea Organ Donation Agency announced on March 21 at Chonnam National University Hospital that Mr. Kang (19 years old) saved the lives of five people through brain-dead organ donation and gave hope for a new life to about 100 sick people through human tissue donation.

On March 19, Mr. Kang fell while riding an electric kickboard on his way home from school and was taken to the emergency room at Chonnam National University Hospital due to traumatic subdural hemorrhage. However, he did not regain consciousness and fell into a state of brain death. With his family’s consent to donation, Mr. Kang saved the lives of five people by donating brain-dead organs such as the heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys (left and right), and helped the recovery of more than 100 patients by donating human tissue.

The family’s sadness was heightened because Mr. Kang was a 19-year-old young man who entered the Department of Fire Administration at Honam University this year and dreamed of becoming a firefighter.

The family revealed the reason for donating, saying that because Mr. Kang was a kind-hearted son who liked sharing with others, they thought it would be good to save others at the end of his life.

Mr. Kang, who was born as the second of three sons and one daughter in Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do, took care of his acquaintances with the pocket money he earned from working part-time at a convenience store and a PC room, and was a bright personality who loved sports and was active in the badminton club.

Kang’s older brother, Kang Yun-sik, said, “When I was young, we used to fight, but now I miss those memories even more. I remember your warm face and appearance so much, and I resemble your bright appearance, so I too will live happily, so please look down from the sky.” He said.

Mother Suji Kang said, “Son. “I am grateful for being born into this world as a mother’s son, and I decided to donate because I want to believe that you are alive,” he said. “I will live believing that you are alive among many people wherever you are.” See you in heaven, my son. “I love you,” he said.
